Iranian, Saudi officials meeting denied

Tehran, IRNA – There has been no meeting or phone call between Iran’s Secretary of Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani and Saudi officials in recent days, a source says.

Nournews quoted an informed source of the SNSC secretariat on Wednesday that reports on a meeting or phone call between the SNSC secretary and authorities from Saudi Arabia are unfounded and there is no program for such a connection.

On the few days, some social media activists published reports on a such a summit without providing any source. They claimed that Shamkhani had met with Saudi Arabia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel al-Jubeir in Baghdad, Iraq.

On Friday, Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Iraj Masjedi said that the talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia are progressing rapidly.

Masjedi also said that the fourth round of Iran-Saudi Arabia talks would be held in Baghdad but did not provide any more details.

The bigger Iraq’s role in the region, the happier Iran will be, the ambassador noted, adding that both Tehran and Riyadh are willing to negotiate and achieve results.
