Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Vice President Mohammad Hosseini and Brazil’s President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in a meeting on Monday called for boosting mutual ties between Tehran and Brasilia.
Following the swear-in ceremony, Hosseini met and held talks with Lula da Silva at the Brazilian Presidential palace.
During a meeting on Monday, Hosseini and Lula da Silva discussed the capacities and ways to develop bilateral, regional, and international relations.
Calling for enhancing cooperation between the two states, they emphasized strengthening and deepening the level of bilateral ties.
Congratulating Brazil’s President-elect in his presidential post, Hosseini emphasized that Tehran considers Brazil as one of the main focuses of the development of relations with South American states.
Lula da Silva, for his part, said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is an important country and enjoys a prominent position, and Brazil seeks to strengthen and develop economic plus political ties with Tehran as much as possible.
Referring to the current political atmosphere that existed in the two countries, Lula underscored that the situation for developing ties in various fields between the two countries is ready.
The Iranian vice president also met with some foreign officials attending Lula’s inauguration ceremony. The German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of Paraguay Mario Abdo Benítez, President of Chile Gabriel Boric, Colombian president Gustavo Petro, as well as Luis Arce President of Bolivia, were among the leaders that the Iranian vice president met and held talks with them in separate meetings.
Hosseini arrived on Saturday in the capital of the South American country to participate in the inauguration ceremony.
Lula da Silva, a leftist politician, succeeded in defeating Jair Bolsonaro in the presidential elections.
He served as Brazil’s president from 2002 to 2010, when the bilateral relations between Brasilia and Tehran witnessed a significant boom.
