Tehran, IRNA – Negotiating teams from Iran, the European Union, and the P4+1 (Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany) hold consecutive and long meetings in Vienna, Austria, to discuss the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal and removal of anti-Iran sanctions in an atmosphere that the Iranian delegation put forward clear-cut suggestions; then, the ball is on other sides’ court to show seriousness in dealing with Tehran’s propositions.
Remarks made by negotiators involved in the eighth round of the Joint Commission meetings of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) indicate that the delegations could reduce the number of differences and the talks have been moving forward.
The negotiating teams held another session on Sunday. The European Union’s representative in the Vienna talks Enrique Mora, top negotiators from Europe’s trio (Britain, France? and Germany), as well as Iranian top nuclear negotiator Ali Bagheri Kani, held talks at Palais Coburg, the venue of the nuclear negotiations.
Consultations at the experts level were also held in bilateral and multilateral meetings.
Bagheri Kani has assessed the pace of negotiations in Vienna as good and progressing.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said in an interview on Sunday that an economic team accompanying Iran’s delegation to the Vienna talks is tasked with nullifying illegal sanctions; that means the Iranians are not going to wait for the Vienna talks for years.
According to the Iranian FM, President Ebrahim Raisi has emphasized that the economic team should not wait for the results of the talks, stating that Iran’s economy should not be tied to the nuclear negotiations.
Iran has put forward clear proposals, Amirabadollahian said, adding that the other negotiating teams, especially Western parties, should show good faith.
Some figures close to US President Joe Biden sought to urge Iranians to hold negotiations in New York, but the Islamic Republic replied that Washington is expected to show change of attitude towards Tehran, he noted, arguing that if the Americans are sincere, they should unfreeze Iranian assets as a goodwill gesture for returning to the JCPOA.
As to the Iranian negotiating team’s stance, he stipulated that President Raisi’s administration was naturally right to review the consensus made by the former administration in Tehran.
Referring to the United States’ excessive demands from the Islamic Republic, Amirabdollahian said that Americans want to squeeze 10 concessions and give a shaky one; however, initiatives proposed by the Iranian team pave the ground for reaching a good consensus.
Permanent Representative of Russia to the International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov said that reaching a pleasant result of the nuclear negotiations requires time and effort.
Iran has time and again underlined that the seriousness of the other parties to lift sanctions and accept Iranian proposed mechanisms will reduce the time for reaching a final agreement.
