Iraqi Journalists Syndicate: Delegations from 50 countries will come to Iraq to participate in the celebration of the 155th Press Day


Baghdad: The Head of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, Moayad Al-Lami, confirmed that the celebration of the 155th Iraqi Press Day will be different from the celebration of previous years, indicating that delegations from 50 countries will come to Iraq to participate in the celebration of the Press Day.

Al-Lami said in a televised interview followed by the Iraqi National News Agency / NINA / that the central celebration will be on the thirtieth of this month at the Rashid Hotel and will be attended by 150 media, cultural and political figures from 50 countries, indicating that a meeting was held yesterday, Sunday, with the heads of the Syndicate branches in the governorates to draw up a plan for the celebration that will reflect the reconstruction campaign in Iraq.

He stressed that the Syndicate will work to highlight Iraq’s urban achievements and make the visitor who comes to Iraq know that Baghdad is not Baghdad in 1990 and not 2003 now, Baghdad 2024 is witnessing a wide urban movement that reflects its ci
vilized history.

Al-Lami explained: There will be a celebration for the union branches in the governorates in the Abu Nawas area, which is an area with an artistic and cultural history, and each governorate will take a space in which to display its history and cultural and popular heritage. Yesterday, we were with the heads of the union branches in the governorates in a meeting, and after that we went to Abu Nawas Street with the representative of the Baghdad Municipality, Muhammad Al-Rubaie, and we divided the Abu Nawas area into sections and each governorate took a part of it. There will be competition between the governorates, as the delegations will learn about the history of each governorate through this celebration.

Regarding the journalists’ incentive grant, Al-Lami said: ‘The grant will be launched during the seventh or eighth month for those who have completed filling out the forms that came from the Ministry of Culture, and we are an intermediary between the Ministry and the journalist.’

g the Syndicate’s relationship with the judiciary, the head of the Iraqi Journalists’ Syndicate confirmed that the judiciary is our support, and we have a disciplinary committee in that investigates legal cases, indicating that a journalist who violates people’s rights will be held accountable, but it is the journalist’s right to criticize the work of institutions that do not provide a service to the country without defamation, as people’s privacy is a red line, and the journalist must have a wide space for expression and show the official his mistakes, but blackmail and defamation are unacceptable.’
