IRCS sends second humanitarian aid to Afghanistan

Tehran, IRNA – The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) sent its second consignment of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan on Friday (yesterday).

According to The Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), director-general for international Operations and Humanitarian Programmes at the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), Hassan Esfandiar, said on Saturday that the second consignment contains 10 tons of food items, including various dry foods such as sugar, canned food, rice.

The first shipment, weighing 50 tons, mainly consisted of food products.

According to a recent World Food Program survey, only 5 percent of Afghans currently have access to adequate, high-quality, three-course-a-day meals.

The UN said that at the start of the year more than 18 million people – about half of Afghanistan’s population – require aid amid the country’s second drought in four years.
