‘IRGC speedboats to become multiple times faster than US models’

Tehran, IRNA – Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri says the force will further upgrade its speedboats to make them several times faster than rival models operated by the US army.

“In future, IRGC speedboats will become multiple times faster than US boats,” said Tangsiri late on Monday in an interview with the state TV.

The commander said IRGC speedboats currently have a speed of 90 knots per hour which is equal to nearly 170 kilometers per hour (km/h) and are three times faster than US models, adding that plans are in place to improve the speed of the boast to 120 knots (200 km/h).

He also said that the IRGC has successfully tested its Navvab air defense missile system on Zolfaqar vessels, adding that Navvab missiles can intercept and hit targets within a range of 25 kilometers.

Tangsiri added that Navvab, a vertical launch missile system, is being manufactured by the Aerospace Industries Organization of the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics.
