Japanese official says Tokyo ready to promote ties with Tehran

The head of Japan-Iran parliamentary friendship group, in his meeting with Iranian ambassador in Tokyo, congratulated Iran’s president-elect Ebrahim Raisi on victory and emphasized his country’s interest in expanding parliamentary ties with Iran.

According to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Japan, The head of Japan-Iran parliamentary friendship group in Tokyo “Fumio Kishida”, met with the Iranian Ambassador to Japan in his residence in Tokyo.

Earlier, Japan’s top government spokesman Katsunobu Kato said Tokyo intends to deepen friendly relations with Tehran.

“We hope Iran will play a constructive role in easing tensions in the Middle East and stabilize the situation under President-elect Raisi,” Kato was quoted by a Japanese media as saying.

“Peace and stability in the region are extremely important to Japan,” given about 90 percent of Japan’s crude oil imports come from the Middle East, he added.

Raisi secured more than 18 million votes to win Iran’s presidential election.
