Jazan University Registers Four Plant Patents for Saudi Coffee Varieties

Jazan University has registered four new plant patents for Saudi coffee varieties with the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property, a new national achievement (SAIP).

Director of the Center for Environmental and Natural Research at Jazan University Dr. Hanan bint Abu Al-Qasim said that the center’s researchers and faculty members from the College of Sciences contributed significantly to this new research through their relentless work and innovation. She stressed that their success in registering these patents underscores the scientific status and professional competence of the center’s researchers and of the university.

The patents pertain to new and distinguished varieties of Saudi coffee discovered in four locations, resulting from a natural mutation of coffee plants. The discovered and registered varieties are Jazan Light, Jazan Premium, JU2030, and Jazan Mocha.
