King Abdullah Medical Complex Saves 90-year-old Indonesian Pilgrim with Duodenal Perforation

Jeddah: A team of medical specialists in general surgery and endoscopy at King Abdullah Medical Complex, a member of the Second Jeddah Health Cluster, successfully saved the life of an Indonesian pilgrim in his nineties who suffered from a perforated duodenum. The patient arrived at the emergency and disaster department at the complex with severe abdominal pain, continuous vomiting, and an accelerated heartbeat. After conducting necessary medical tests, it was found that the patient had pus inside the abdomen and abdominal poisoning, posing a high risk to his health. The surgical medical team was called in to assess the case.

The medical team decided to perform an urgent medical intervention, preparing the patient as an emergency case and transferring him to the endoscopy operating room for an exploration procedure using a surgical laparoscope with three small incisions not exceeding 10 mm.

During the procedure, the abdominal area was explored, revealing a hole in the duodenum, which was then removed to eli
minate the pus and repair the existing hole. The operation was successful and lasted 90 minutes.

Subsequently, the patient was transferred to intensive care for continuous medical observation until his health stabilized and he recovered. Two days later, he was moved to the regular inpatient wards to continue treatment and ensure complete stability before being discharged in the next few days.
