Kingdom Launches International Year of Camelids (IYC 2024)


Riyadh, The Kingdom has announced that it will host over 50 events worldwide to celebrate the International Year of Camelids. The events aim to highlight camels’ cultural, social, and economic importance and raise public awareness about their significant role in maintaining environmental balance.

The Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli inaugurated the International Year of Camelids activities at the ministry’s headquarters. Various governmental and private agencies, as well as the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), attended the event.

The Ministry’s Undersecretary for Fisheries and Livestock Wealth, Dr. Ali Al-Shaikhi, explained that the Kingdom is taking the lead in promoting the International Year of Camelids by implementing initiatives to preserve camels and their breeds, such as genetic coding of camels, numbering and lineage determination, as well as various strategies and plans to increase their production.
