Kurdistan Regional Security Council: PKK-affiliated sabotage group behind assassinations


The Kurdistan Region Security Council confirmed today, Tuesday: “A sabotage group affiliated with the Workers’ Party is behind organized assassinations targeting citizens of the region and cadres and members of political parties in the region.

The Council said in a statement: “Recently, a sabotage group affiliated with the Workers’ Party (PKK) has carried out systematic assassinations targeting citizens of the region and cadres and members of political parties in the Kurdistan Region, and through these hostile acts, it targets the lives and property of citizens in the region.”

The statement continued: “In its latest hostile acts, the terrorist group targeted the car of a prominent party official in the city of Kalar on July 15, 2024, using a sticky bomb.”

It explained that “this sabotage group has targeted many citizens and members of the forces defending Kurdistan during the past three years, which led to the martyrdom of many, while some of its sabotage attempts failed after they were thwarted.”

ted out that “this group did not only that, but it also burned public places, markets and shopping centers in the Kurdistan Region and other areas, spreading its poison and harming the businessmen and honorable citizens in the Kurdistan Region.

It went on to say that “this group has become a means of drug trafficking and promoting these materials, in addition to carrying out illegal acts in the region and internationally.”

It concluded by saying that “the influence of this destructive group affiliated with the Workers’ Party exposes the future of the region to regional and international danger and will have negative and undesirable consequences, and its continued implementation of these acts will not pass without accountability, and the group’s leadership bears responsibility for any repercussions or reactions.”
