Majlis advises Iran negotiating team not to restrict itself to West’s artificial deadlines

Tehran, IRNA – Majlis (Parliament) has advised Iran’s negotiating team not to limit themselves to the West’s “artificial deadlines,” and follow up preservation of national resources in Vienna talks.

The negating team should strongly observe the country’s declared red lines, 160 out of 290 members of the Iranian Parliament made the remarks through a statement issued after an open session in Tehran on Sunday morning.

At the session, the negating team’s approach in the Vienna talks was reviewed by the lawmakers.

The parliamentarians also asked the negotiating team force the United States to give sufficient political, technical and economic guarantee against its repetition of illegal exit from the agreement.

United States unilaterally withdrew from the Iran Deal, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), in May 2018 and imposed as it claimed the highest level of sanctions against Iran in November the same year. Now, Iran wants necessary guarantee to not let the US repeat its move.

According to the statement, preservation of basic elements of Iran’s nuclear program will provide a firm guarantee.

The Iranian team in Vienna should pursue compensation for losses made by the US for Iranians’ livelihood, the lawmakers stressed.

Removal of the sanctions has to be effective and comprehensive; lifting part of the sanction or just removing them on paper do not provide “our national interests,” the parliamentarians underlined.

Majlis follows any agreement that defends Iran’s economic interests and fulfills nation’s lost rights.

In a related development, the spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Saturday that all sanctions which bar Iran’s economic benefits have to be removed.
