Makkah Health Cluster Saves Life of Chinese Pilgrim with Superlight Leadless Pacemaker Implantation

Makkah: The cardiac team at King Abdullah Medical City in the Makkah Health Cluster successfully performed a life-saving pacemaker implantation for a 69-year-old Chinese Hajj pilgrim.

The medical team inserted a leadless pacemaker, resembling a small capsule, weighing only 2.8 grams, the cluster said. The pacemaker is recognized as the smallest and most advanced device of its kind.

The cluster highlighted the non-invasive nature of this pacemaker, eliminating the need for traditional surgery and preventing any incisions or scars on the chest. Furthermore, it does not require the placement of leads or threads, nor the creation of a pocket inside the body.

Prior to the implantation, the patient experienced severe dizziness due to a slow heart rate, which necessitated his referral from Ajyad Emergency Hospital to the cardiac center at King Abdullah Medical City, as stated by the cluster.

A comprehensive evaluation of his condition preceded the pacemaker implantation, the cluster said, noting that the procedu
re utilized the latest available technology.

The pacemaker represents one of the latest innovations in terms of size and effectiveness in the field of cardiac care.
