My gov’t priority economy, I seek to develop regional economic ties/ Completion of joint Iran-Belarus projects can accelerate process of economic interaction

The President said that the level of economic relations between Iran and Belarus is not sufficient and satisfactory, adding, “The completion of joint projects of the two countries as soon as possible can accelerate and facilitate the development of bilateral economic interactions”.

Speaking in a meeting with President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on Thursday evening on the first day of his visit to Tajikistan, Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi stressed that the priority of his government was economic, adding, “I seek to develop economic relations in the region and I have instructed the economic and technical ministers to pursue the implementation of joint agreements”.

Ayatollah Raisi pointed out, “Tehran and Minsk have very good grounds and capacities to deepen relations, and good and constructive bilateral political relations can help to make these capacities operational more and more quickly”.

Referring to the US government’s acknowledgment of the failure of the policy of maximum pressure against the Iranian people, Dr Raisi said, “Development of regional relations is one of the ways to counter sanctions, and countries like Iran and Belarus have found ways to overcome sanctions”.

In this meeting, the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko said, “No country has succeeded in imposing sanctions on other countries, and sanctions are essentially a failed policy in the world”.

Emphasising his interest in developing economic relations and cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran, Lukashenko said, “The current level of economic relations between the two countries is in no way proportionate to the friendly political relations between Iran and Belarus, and we should use the existing potentials to deepen economic relations as much as possible”.

He said, “We need to form a joint work group in addition to accelerating the completion of joint projects to develop an operational roadmap to improve relations between the two countries”.
