Neighborhood policy means Iran is firm promoter of peace, stability: Official

Yerevan, IRNA – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani said in a meeting with his Armenian counterpart here on Wednesday that Iran and Armenia are not against any side in the region, as Iran is always a firm promoter of comprehensive peace in Caucasus.

Bagheri Kani who is in Armenia on an official invitation of his Armenian counterpart for political consultations on Wednesday met with Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Vice Secretary of Armenia National Security Council Armen Gregorian.

In his meeting with the Armenian foreign minister, Bagheri Kani said that the historical ties between the Iranian and Armenian nations are great capitals at the service of broadening and deepening Tehran-Yerevan relations.

“Iran-Armenia relations is not against any side in the region, as Iran has always been after strengthening the foundations of comprehensive peace in the Caucasus region,” added the Iranian deputy foreign minister.

He said that the aliens in Caucasus are always after securing only their own benefits and even use the negotiation table as a cover for pursuing instability and tension building, adding, “Security and stability in the Caucasus region is like a killer poison for the usurper Zionists, and for those who gain benefits from regional instability, and therefore, they constantly try to disturb this region’s stability and the people’s peace of mind.”

Bagheri Kani referred to the excellent and Iran-Armenia political relations and growing commercial and economic bilateral cooperation, reiterating that the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran pays special attention to improvement of its relations with neighboring countries, and especially with the Republic of Armenia, which is why visiting Yerevan on the first day of the Iranian New Year was chosen as a sign of Iran’s special concern about the Caucasus region.

The Armenian Foreign Minister Mirzoyan, too, congratulating the Iranian New Year, Nowruz, to BagheriKani, expressed hope that in this new year, too both sides will be witnesses to the further expansion and development of bilateral ties.

The two sides, meanwhile, exchanged views on the latest regional developments, ways for cooperation to preserve the region’s peace and stability, and the process of different regional negotiations.

The Iranian deputy foreign minister in his meeting with the Secretary of Armenia National Security Council Gregorian, too, emphasized on Islamic Republic of Iran’s fundamental policy of respecting the international borders and national sovereignty of all regional countries.

“Iran’s efforts are also focused on finding peaceful solutions to regional crises, believing that the aliens should not be permitted to have their security apparatus of the region at their disposal,” added Bagheri Kani.

The secretary of Armenia National Security Council, too, welcomed Iran’s initiative, and said, “Yerevan welcomes regional initiatives aimed at promoting regional peace and stability and also welcomes Iran’s proposal to host the 3+3 Conference.”

Bagheri also met and conferred with his Armenian counterpart Vahan Gustanian in a meeting titled ‘Iran-Armenia Political Consultations’ to survey the latest regional developments, the latest status of bilateral ties, and some other regional developments.

He said in that meeting that the Islamic Republic of Iran’s good neighborly relations, which is the strategic foreign policy of Iran, is aimed at further strengthening the regional stability and regional development.
