OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission to Hold 23rd Session Next Sunday in Jeddah


Jeddah: The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is scheduled to hold its 23rd regular session between June 30 and July 4 at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah. The session will be attended by all member and observer states of the organization, including national human rights institutions, experts from relevant international and regional organizations, senior officials of the OIC General Secretariat, and media representatives.

Following the opening ceremony, there will be a discussion on “The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Human Rights: Challenges and Opportunities,” which will be inaugurated by OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha and the Chairman of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission Talal Al-Mutairi. International experts from the United Nations, other relevant entities, specialized institutions within the OIC, and representatives from member and observer states and their national human rights institutions will participate in
the discussions.

A high-level event is scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2024, on “The International Court of Justice’s Ruling on Gaza: Future Implications and the Way Forward.” The event aims to analyze the International Court of Justice’s ruling on Gaza and how it can play an important role in implementing the provisional measures issued by the court to end the humanitarian crisis and advocate for justice and accountability regarding human rights violations against the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territories, especially in Gaza.
