OIC welcomes UNSC resolution calling for ceasefire in Gaza

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed on Tuesday the adoption by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) of a resolution calling for a comprehensive ceasefire in Gaza.

The resolution calls for the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes and ensuring safe delivery of humanitarian aid as well.

The OIC considered in its statement that the adoption of this resolution constitutes an important step towards the international community assuming its responsibilities to stop the genocide being committed by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinians in Gaza for eight months.

The organizations called for concerted efforts and for everyone to assume their responsibilities in order to ensure immediate implementation.

The UNSC adopted on Monday by a majority of 14 members and one member’s abstention, a resolution presented by the US in support of its proposal regarding Gaza, which calls for a ceasefire and the exchange of prisoners in four stage
s leading to a ceasefire and access for humanitarian aid within the sector.
