Islamabad, IRNA – Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said in the meeting with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi that Pakistan-Iran ties were interwoven and rooted in strong commonalities.
Qureshi who is in Iran to participate in the ministerial meeting of neighbor countries of Afghanistan met with President Raisi on Tuesday.
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan said in a press release afterwards that Qureshi had expressed confidence on growing ties between Iran and Pakistan.
Qureshi said that Iran-Pakistan relations which stemmed from historical, religious, and geographical commonalities as well as lengthy borders was a means to achieve peace, welfare, and stability in the region, according to the press release.
The Pakistani foreign minister appreciated Iran for its regional stances, including Kashmir Muslims issue, and described Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamanei’s influential views as valuable in this regard, the press release continued.
It added that Qureshi briefed Iranian president on Islamabad’s views on the latest developments in Afghanistan and called on the international community to help Afghan people on the grounds of humanitarian feelings.
Pakistani foreign minister also said that continuation of exchange of opinions between Afghanistan neighbors was necessary, because peace, welfare, and stability in the region depended on Afghanistan’s improvement.
He submitted Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan’s invitation to President Raisi to pay a visit to Pakistan.
