Palestine Polytechnic University wins the Best Research Award at the 18th Jordanian Chemical Conference

Palestine Polytechnic University participated in the eighteenth Jordanian conference, which was held in Jordan, organized by the Hashemite University and the Jordanian Chemical Society, under the patronage of Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, during the period 12-13 September 2023, where Professor Arwa Mujahid from the College of Applied Sciences participated. A representative of the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biology with a scientific paper entitled:

Association between water electrolytes and bacterial antibiotic resistance development in drinking water.

This research is considered the first of its kind in the region as it studies the effect of ions naturally present in drinking water on the bacteria present in it and stimulating them to make mutations in genes that It is possible to make these bacteria resistant to antibiotics. This is a series of research conducted by Professor Megahed to try to understand the behavior and source of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and find solutions and alternatives to this problem.

Mujahid’s participation in this international conference stems from Palestine Polytechnic University’s belief in its role in raising and enhancing the level of scientific research activity and expanding the circle of networking and cooperation with Palestinian, regional and international universities.

It is worth noting that more than 200 researchers from different nationalities around the world participated in the conference sessions, where about 65 scientific contributions were presented in the form of scientific papers and various research studies within scientific lectures, various sessions, and scientific poster presentations that address various topics in advanced sciences. In industrial chemistry, biochemistry, and green chemistry, in addition to an exhibition for Jordanian companies specialized in scientific and research equipment.

It is worth mentioning that this qualitative research received an award for the best research presented to this conference in the form of a poster. The attendees praised the importance and quality of this research in the health and environmental sectors and research into an important global problem. This is what Palestine Polytechnic University seeks to achieve through its support for research and creative projects to serve Society and its advancement where all are harnessed
