Parliamentary division in voting for candidates for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives


The corridors of the House of Representatives witnessed a clear parliamentary division regarding voting for the candidates for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, “Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani / Salem Al-Issawi,” while voting procedures to elect the Speaker of Parliament continued.

MPs told the correspondent of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) that, ‘There is a clear division among the MPs of the political blocs regarding voting for any of the candidates for the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, whether within the Coordination Framework blocs or within Siyada, Azm and Hsm blocs,’ while other MPs expected voting to pass the nomination of Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani is supported by the blocs of the Taqaddum Alliance, the State of Law, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, National Wisdom Movement and Al-Sadiqoon.’

But other MPs suggested that candidate Salem Al-Issawi would win the position of Speaker of Parliament, based on the votes of MPs of minorities, the Kurdistan Democratic
Party, the independents, Badr, and Al-Amal Al-Watani.
