Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee: Financial allocations to the Ministries of Defense and Interior are not sufficient for arming and equipping them

The Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed: ‘The financial allocations in the federal budget for the current year 2024 to the Ministries of Defense and Interior are not sufficient for armament, equipment and other requirements.’

Committee member MP, Yasser Iskandar Witwit said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA): ‘The Ministers of Defense and Interior and the Chief of Staff of the Army must submit briefings to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to explain the needs of the security ministries in order to improve security work and continue the fight against ISIS, terrorist groups and organized crime and drugs.’

He added: ‘More attention must be given to air force, army aviation and air defense, especially with the imminent withdrawal of international coalition forces from Iraq.’

He pointed out: ‘Failure to complete the requirements of the Iraqi air force and air defense, and the withdrawal of the international coalition forces, will put Iraq in security problems, s
o it is very important to equip these leaderships with the latest aircraft, weapons, devices and equipment, and to diversify the sources of armament and equipment from several countries.’
