Pres. Raisi emphasizes need for furthering cooperation with African continent

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi stressed the need to further activate all capacities for boosting cooperation with the African continent.

He made the remarks on Friday in a meeting with the speaker of the National Assembly of Guinea-Bissau Cipriano Cassamá who is here to participate in Raisi’s inauguration as Iran’s new president which was held Thursday.

Raisi further emphasized the priority of developing relations with the African continent in the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran and said in the new government, all capacities for cooperation with African countries will be seriously activated.

He also pointed to the valuable material and manpower capacity African countries have and and said that Tehran is willing to pursue a policy of developing comprehensive relations with African countries including Guinea-Bissau to serve the mutual interest.

President Raisi further pointed out that westerners mainly seek to exploit the resources and reserves of the African continent, and in return not only do not contribute to the development and welfare of its people, but instead pursue the policy of backwardness of African countries while Iran is a friend of the continent.

The Guinea-Bissau official said his country as well as other African countries support such approaches, and we welcome the views expressed.

The Speaker of the National Assembly of Guinea-Bissau emphasized his country’s commitment to developing relations with Iran and believed that sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran must be lifted and it is not possible to continue.
