President Raisi’s visit to Uzbekistan turning point in Tehran-Tashkent ties: FM

Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Uzbek counterpart Vladimir Imamovich Norov held a phone conversation on Friday on issues of mutual interests.

In the Friday phone call, the top Iranian diplomat conveyed President Ebrahim Raisi’s message to his counterpart, expressing hope that Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev will successfully host the next summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Samarkand in the near future.

FM Amirabdollahian also described President Raisi’s plan to take part in the summit as a turning point in the Uzbekistan-Iran relationship.

The Iranian official further noted that the Islamic Republic is prepared to assist the Uzbek authorities in hosting the SCO summit in Samarkand.

Vladimir Imamovich Norov, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the Iranian president’s participation in the Samarkand summit, informing that 14 heads of state will take part in the event.

One of the most important subjects to be focused on in the Samarkand summit is the capacity and significance of the Islamic Republic of Iran as the permanent member state of the SCO, he added.

Iran’s permanent membership in the SCO will be finalized in 2023.

Furthermore, both Uzbek and Iranian foreign ministers underlined the necessity for continuation of consultations on issues of mutual interests.
