Quake jolts southern Iran

Tehran, IRNA – An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale jolted Fin city, Bandar Abbas County, Hormuzgan Province, Iran on Monday.

According to the seismological center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 13:44 hours local time (10:14 GMT) in an area located at 27.56 degrees latitude and 56.21 degrees longitude and in the depth of 14 kilometers.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualties or damages to property.

Iran sits on major fault lines and is prone to near-daily earthquakes.
