Raisi stresses reclaiming Iran’s water right from in Helmand River

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi tasked foreign affairs and energy ministers to pursue reclaiming Iran’s water right in Helmand River.

Speaking in a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, President Raisi instructed the two ministries to explore other ways to supply Sistan and Balouchestan’s drinking water.

Since taking control of Kabul in August, the Taliban government has vowed to implement the terms of the 1973 water treaty with Iran and reverse a trend set by a previous US-backed administration which had failed to commit to the treaty.

However, Taliban ministers have blamed drought and technical issues for low supply of water from Afghanistan to Iran over past months.
