Result-oriented negotiations key for resuming Vienna talks

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani is scheduled to meet the European Union envoy coordinating talks on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal, Enrique Mora, in Brussels, Belgium, on Wednesday to reiterate that Tehran is seeking for holding “result-oriented negotiations,” which will lead to removal of all cruel sanctions.

Bagheri Kani wrote on his Twitter account that the meeting will be held on Wednesday in Brussels in order to pave the ground for holding result-oriented negotiations in Vienna, Austria.

He added that Iran is determined to hold negotiations, which will fully and effectively lift illegal and cruel sanctions, guarantee normalization of trade and economic ties between Iran and other countries, assure the Islamic Republic that violation of the 2015 nuclear deal will not occur once more as what happened in May 2018 when then US President Donald Trump withdrew the US from the nuclear accord and re-imposed anti-Iran sanctions.

The important issue is whether the other signatories to the nuclear deal, also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), are really prepared to comply with their commitments under the agreement, the deputy FM wrote, noting that they are expected to call on the violator of the JCPOA to stop the policy of destroying the international deal.

According to the official, continuation of failed policy of so-called “maximum pressure” will not pave the ground for removing obstacles in the way of reviving the JCPOA, but this policy will complicate the situation ahead.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has time and again underlined that the principle stance of the establishment is based on returning to result-oriented talks with the P4+1 group, including the UK, France, Russia, China plus Germany on revival of the nuclear deal.

The Wednesday tweet by Bagheri Kani sends a message to other signatories of the JCPOA that negotiation for the sake of negotiation is not supported by Tehran, because these kinds of talks have been experienced in the past, but they brought about no tangible result, so all sides are expected to abide by their commitments and eliminate anti-Iran sanctions.

In the current situation, it seems that “result-oriented negotiations” will be an appropriate option for all sides to secure fruitful talks for revival of the JCPOA.
