Russia announces the interception of a Norwegian warplane over the Barents Sea

Russia announced that it intercepted, today, Monday, a Norwegian warplane that was approaching its borders over the Barents Sea in the Arctic Ocean.

The Russian Ministry of Defense said in a statement that the Russian army sent a fighter to intercept a Norwegian Boeing B-8A Poseidon aircraft designated for maritime patrols, noting that as the Russian fighter approached, the Norwegian military plane turned back.

This Russian announcement comes hours after the Netherlands announced that the Danish Air Force intercepted two Russian bombers today, as they were flying towards the area monitored by the Netherlands for the benefit of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The Royal Netherlands Air Force said in a statement that the two Russian bombers were intercepted before they could enter the airspace monitored by the Netherlands for NATO.
