Moscow, IRNA – Kazem Jalali, Iran’s ambassador to Russia, in a panel discussion titled ‘Trilateral Cooperation among Russian Federation, Islamic Republic of Iran and Republic of Azerbaijan’ emphasized the need for broader regional cooperation.

The main theme of the day-long panel discussion was cooperation in industrial, transit, and transportation corridors.

At the panel discussion, the Iranian ambassador, diplomats, and prominent analysts of the two countries exchanged viewpoints on expansion of industrial parks and economic free zones in port cities, increasing the capacity of the North-South International Corridor, and increasing the cargo transportation volume by rail, sea, rivers, and highways.

Also present at the panel discussion there were some Russian, Azerbaijani and Iranian officials, including Iranian officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Roads and Transportation Ministry, the Anzali Free Trade Zone, and university researchers, either personally or through webinar.

The Iranian ambassador in the meeting spoke about the significance of the North-South Corridor project, reiterating: For Iran, too, the expansion of cooperation in roads and seas transportation is important.

He referred to the foreign policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, stressing that development of relations with the neighboring countries and expansion of the connection routes in the region are among the most important means for broader cooperation.

“The transcontinental North-South Corridor is one of the most important transportation projects, and now that two decades pass since the related agreement among the countries along the route of that corridor, some agreements have been made, but they are not enough,” added Jalali.

The Head of Rosatom state organization Alexey Likhachev, too, welcomed deepening of relations, especially bilateral ties with Iran on peaceful nuclear energy field.

The head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), too, had earlier in the day arrived in Moscow to meet his Russian counterpart Alexey Likhachev and was welcomed at the airport by the Iranian ambassador to Moscow, a number of the embassy staff, and Rosatom officials.
