Russia-Pakistan Freight Train Project via Iran Set for Trial Launch in 2025.


Islamabad: Pakistan’s Minister of Energy has announced a trial launch of freight trains from Russia to Pakistan via the North-South Corridor, which will pass through Azerbaijan and Iran, scheduled for March 2025.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, in an interview with Russia Today (RT) on Thursday, indicated that there is a principled and shared perspective between Pakistan and Russia, emphasizing that their relationship is not aimed against any other country or the interests of third parties.

Leghari stressed that Pakistan’s significant relations with Russia serve the people of both countries. The aim of strengthening these ties is to achieve common objectives, rendering any external concerns unnecessary.

Furthermore, Leghari addressed potential concerns from Western countries, stating that they should not worry about Pakistan’s relations and cooperation with Russia. He added that, given the current global dynamics, partnerships between developing countries and major i
nternational powers, particularly with the BRICS countries, are inevitable.

Additionally, Leghari mentioned that in March 2025, the project to launch freight trains from Russia to Pakistan via the North-South Corridor through Azerbaijan and Iran will begin on a trial basis. Concurrently, both countries are working on establishing direct flights between their capitals.
