Saudi Geological Survey Intensifies Efforts to Monitor Zamzam Well Water

Jeddah: The Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) has intensified its efforts to monitor Zamzam water during this year’s Hajj season 1445 AH to ensure its sustainability and preserve its sources.

SGS operates through several technical programs, including the monitoring program for Zamzam well and purification stations in Makkah and Madinah. Full supervision is conducted on the extraction of Zamzam water through the monitoring program for its quantity, as well as overseeing its filtration, sterilization, and storage processes.

Moreover, SGS works on preparing and activating a pumping and operation program to determine the required and safe quantities from the well based on modern hydrogeological methods.

It also works to update these quantities and monitors the well’s pumping to align with the proposed amounts.

Additionally, it conducts regular tours to monitor the quality of Zamzam water from the well and various distribution points by collecting intensive random samples. These samples are sent to SGS laboratorie
s in Jeddah for various microbiological and chemical analyses to ensure their safety.
