The Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), Major General Pilot Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, met on Monday in Abuja with Nigeria’s Minister of Defense Mohammed Badaru Abubakar.
The meeting included discussions on shared interests related to combating terrorism across ideological, media, financial, and military fronts. It also featured a briefing on IMCTC’s counter-terrorism efforts, an overview of the coalition’s initiatives within member states, and its strategic implementation plan, highlighting key anticipated outcomes.
The Nigerian minister expressed hope that these initiatives would reflect the diligent efforts of IMCTC in supporting member states in their fight against terrorism, emphasizing that combating terrorism requires an intensive international effort to eliminate it.
Meanwhile, Major General Al-Moghedi praised Nigeria’s efforts in combating terrorism across Africa, particularly in West Africa, where it faces threats from Boko Haram and other terrorist
groups that endanger national and regional security. He highlighted Nigeria’s participation in the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), which aims to counter cross-border terrorist groups and strengthen stability along the member states’ borders.
Moreover, he commended Nigeria’s strategic approach to countering extremism at its roots by developing socio-economic programs that create job opportunities, promote education in terrorism-affected areas, and support rehabilitation initiatives for former fighters. Additionally, he noted Nigeria’s efforts to raise community awareness about the dangers of extremism and to encourage interfaith dialogue as a means to combat extremist ideologies.
This visit is part of IMCTC’s efforts to strengthen international cooperation with member states, aimed at intensifying global efforts in the fight against terrorism across Africa.
