South Africa dismisses West sanctions on Iran: Envoy

Nowshahr, IRNA – South African Ambassador to Tehran Vika Mazwi Khumalo has underscored that his country does not accept the West’s sanctions on Iran because of their negative impact on trade interactions of the African country.

The ambassador made the remarks on the sidelines of a visit to a power plant in Nowshahr city, Mazandaran province, on Monday, noting that the sanctions can affect trade exchanges and banking transactions between the Islamic Republic and other nations.

Since the most South African companies are belonging to private sector and they have trade exchanges with the Western states, they are concerned about their ties with the West, he warned.
On signing contracts between South Africa and Iran, he noted that the two sides have inked 23 memoranda of understanding so far and that 18 out of the number have become operational.
The MoUs are scheduled to be assessed in a joint commission next year, he said, adding that programming for Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s visit to South Africa is one of the issues, which should be discussed in the joint commission.

According to the envoy, requirements of both countries especially Mazandaran province should be reviewed precisely.

Iran enjoys various capacities in different sectors; so, South Africa is ready to expand cooperation with the country in particular with merchants from the northern province, he said.
Some provincial officials, including governor general and head of ports organization, took part in the Monday meeting with the South African ambassador.
