Sponsored by UNESCO Iraq.. New challenges in direct dialogue between female journalists and police officers

The UNESCO Iraq office organized today, Monday a joint training session for a number of female journalists and officers of the Ministry of Interior from the investigative unit for crimes committed against journalists and some other types of security, within the framework of the Breaking the Silence Project funded by the Dutch Embassy in Iraq.

The Department of Public Relations and Information at the Ministry of Interior hosted the dialogue training, which was sponsored by UNESCO as part of a series of workshops and trainings that take place in parallel with the Iraqi judiciary, targeting Iraqi journalists to enhance monitoring and reporting mechanisms and improve the response of the law enforcement institution to the requirements of protection, safety and security.

The female investigative unit officers and female journalists discussed these details at length, while UNESCO supervised framing these discussions and directing them to the other concerned authorities, so that each of them would carry out their duties towards this professional community.

The digital reporting platform for female journalists was the most prominent focus of discussions and training topics due to the necessities of enhancing trust between the two parties and pushing Iraqi female journalists to report more about the challenges and risks they face.

Between the demands of women journalists for empowerment and access to international standards of safety and security, and between the global digital revolution and its effects on the local media, UNESCO recorded a number of new challenges facing women journalists, adding to the traditional list.
