The Leaders Of The ECOWAS Armies Will Meet Tomorrow In Ghana To Discuss Military Intervention In Niger

The leaders of the armies of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) will meet tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, amid prospects for a possible military intervention in Niger, according to a Ghanaian army spokesman.

Since the coup against President Mohamed Bazoum in Niger by the army, the group has been hinting at military intervention to restore Bazoum to power.

The ECOWAS countries initially considered a military intervention against the perpetrators of the Nigerien coup, and the heads of state of the group ordered the preparation of a military force to restore constitutional order during a special summit, but they indicated that the pursuit of a peaceful solution must continue.

ECOWAS defense ministers and leaders of the group’s armies met already a week after the coup, and made plans to send troops after they issued an ultimatum to the military junta that took power after the coup.
