The UN Security Council held an emergency session on the situation in Lebanon, at the request of France.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed: “Lebanon’s sovereignty must be respected.”

He added: “A ceasefire agreement must be reached,” noting: “More than 90,000 people have been displaced from southern Lebanon.
