Today’s newspapers focus on Iraq’s unique stance on the Zionist aggression and the House of Representatives’ confirmation of its keenness to ensure that journalists obtain their rights

Today, Thursday, September 26, the newspapers issued in Baghdad focused on Iraq’s unique and distinguished position on the Zionist aggression.. and the confirmation of the House of Representatives’ keenness to expedite the legislation of laws that enhance the status of journalists.. and other issues, including the role of the Central Bank of Iraq in monitoring private banks.

Regarding Iraq’s position, the newspaper / Al-Sabah / issued by the Iraqi Media Network said: “During his participation in the work of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Prime Minister Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani was keen in all his meetings with the leaders of countries to evoke the raging crisis in our regional environment and the Zionist aggression that has become a firebird moving from one region to another, from Gaza, which is being exterminated under the eyes and ears of the world, to southern Lebanon, where American reports indicated yesterday that the intensity of fire used in bombing civilians there is unprecedented in
the history of wars.”

It added: “The voice of Iraq reached the world during the Prime Minister’s visit. At the same time, Iraqi aid arrived in Lebanon, and with it the clear religious, popular and official position, which prompted Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati to say: “Iraq was the first country to provide aid to us” and that “this position is a continuation of Iraq’s positions that have helped Lebanon for several years.” The Iraqi political performance in this crisis was crowned by an Iraqi call to hold an Arab and Islamic summit to discuss the Zionist aggression against Lebanon. It concluded by saying: “The Iraqi position brings us to a question about the reason for the absence or weakness of similar positions from Arab and Islamic diplomacy. Since all visions agree on stopping the aggression and curbing the entity’s brutality, and they agree in general that any possible solution must begin with stopping the genocide in Gaza. By stopping the killing of the people of Gaza, the fireball will stop roll
ing in the region, which is what Al-Sudani expressed yesterday during his participation in the annual Concordia Summit, saying that ‘addressing the situation in Gaza will prevent the expansion of the conflict in the region.’

Al-Zawraa newspaper, issued by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, was interested in the confirmation of the House of Representatives’ keenness to expedite the legislation of laws that enhance the status of journalists and obtain their rights.

It referred in this regard to the reception of the Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, in his guest house, the President of the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and the President of the Arab Journalists Federation, Mu’ayyad Al-Lami.

It quoted a statement from the Office of the Acting Speaker of the House of Representatives: “Al-Mandalawi stressed during the meeting that the media plays an important role and is a fundamental pillar in the democratic process, due to the power and influence that journalistic institutions hav
e to expose and combat corruption, and the messages they provide to confront phenomena that are alien to the culture of society.”

It focused on Al-Mandalawi’s confirmation that the House of Representatives is very keen to expedite the legislation of laws that contribute to enhancing the status of journalists and obtaining their full rights, including amending Law 81 of 1973 related to the Journalists’ Retirement Fund.

Al-Mandlawi directed the concerned parliamentary committees to coordinate with the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate and relevant parties to hold workshops and extensive meetings to mature the possible visions and proposals that contribute to lifting the injustice against journalists.

As for the newspaper / Al-Zaman /, it was interested in the complaint of some private banks, and the role of the Central Bank in following up on their work.

The newspaper said: “Businessmen complained that an Islamic bank seized their deposited funds months ago, amid accusations that the bank is procrastinating and e
vading payment, despite repeated promises.”

The Iraqi businessman, Silwan Francis, told / Al-Zaman /: “The bank pledged since the beginning of the year to return the funds deposited with it, but the reality reflects a series of excuses and procrastination.”

He added: “The bank has not paid our deposited funds in dollars since last April, and is satisfied with promises to pay them in Iraqi dinars at an unfair exchange rate of 1310 dinars per dollar, which causes a loss estimated at 14 percent of the value of the original funds,” stressing: “The bank’s chairman, managing director and customer accounts manager use evasive methods in communication.”

The newspaper added: “Those affected by the bank wondered about the role of the Central Bank of Iraq in monitoring and controlling private banks to ensure the rights of depositors.”

It quoted those affected as saying: “Despite the many complaints, we have not noticed any serious action or tangible measures from the Central Bank to protect the rights of depositors
or hold the management of the International Islamic Bank accountable,” expressing their concern about the decline in financial oversight of banks and their role in protecting the investments of citizens and companies.
