Today’s Newspapers recall the terrorist occupation of the city of Mosul by ISIS… and the possibility of linking the ‘Silk and Development’ roads.

Baghdad: Newspapers published in Baghdad today, Monday, June 10, focused on commemorating the tenth anniversary of the terrorist ISIS occupation of the city of Mosul, and Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani raised the possibility of linking the ‘Silk Road’ to the development road project.

Regarding the anniversary of the occupation of Mosul, Al-Zawraa newspaper, published by the Iraqi Journalists Syndicate, said: ‘Iraqis bitterly recalled the fall of the city of Mosul at the hands of the terrorist organization ISIS, 10 years after the painful incident that left thousands of martyrs and wounded, whether civilians or security forces.’

The head of Bayariq Al-Khair bloc, MP Muhammad Al-Khalidi, said in an interview with Al-Zawraa: ‘The criminal terrorist organization ISIS did not stop at the fall of Mosul at that time, but rather headed to other cities, including Saadiya area, and committed all the crimes that harmed the people of the city.’

He added: ‘Now the city has become beautiful due to the reconstru
ction campaign and has a greater future,’ pointing out that there are conflicts between political forces and some armed factions in the city, and this will also affect civil peace.

The newspaper quoted political analyst Muhammad Jalil as saying: ‘The terrorist ISIS is a virus that would have almost reached the entire world and the Arab world and neighboring countries, had it not been for the help of the heroic Iraqis who turned the setback of the fall of Mosul into a great victory, and proved that they are capable of protecting the land.’

He added: “Also, the religious authority had a major role and clearly seen by the world and the Iraqis in liberating Iraqi lands through its message that was directed to the Iraqis to volunteer to fight the terrorist gangs.”

As for Al-Sabah newspaper, which is published by the Iraqi Media Network, it was interested in Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani’s proposal of the possibility of linking the ‘Silk Road’ to the Development Road Project.

The newspaper reported th
at: ‘Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani raised, during his meeting with the CEO of the Chinese PetroChina Company in the Middle East and his accompanying delegation, the possibility of linking the Chinese ‘Belt’ and ‘Silk Road’ with the Iraqi ‘Development Road’ project to form one project.

It added, quoting an official statement, that the Prime Minister stressed his keenness to develop relations with China in all fields, indicating that the presence of Chinese companies in various sectors, including the oil sector, enhances this trend to develop relations between the two countries.

Al-Sudani referred to the associated gas project that he inaugurated yesterday, Saturday, in Maysan Governorate, which is being implemented by PetroChina, as one of the strategic projects between the two countries, as it falls within the government’s priorities in stopping the waste represented by burning gas.

The newspaper touched on the Prime Minister’s confirmation of Iraq’s interest in developing gas projects, as part o
f the government’s program to develop the manufacturing and fertilizer industries, which will give the economy added value and provide job opportunities. He indicated that the Belt and Road project could be linked to the Development Road project to form one project.

Meanwhile, Al-Zaman newspaper followed the tenth anniversary of the Speicher massacre committed by ISIS in Salah al-Din Governorate.

The newspaper said: ‘Every year, Iraqis commemorate the Speicher massacre committed by ISIS members against innocent people in 2014,’ noting that the United Nations had previously described the massacre as a crime of genocide, in which about two thousand unarmed students at the Air Force College were killed in the city of Tikrit.

It added: “This massacre became a symbol of the brutality of ISIS, when the terrorists took the unarmed students of the Air Force College to the site of the presidential palaces overlooking the Tigris River and carried out their heinous crime by firing squad and throwing the bodies of the
victims into the Tigris River.”

The newspaper stated: ‘The international community condemned the heinous crime at the time and formed an international coalition to confront ISIS, working to dry up its financial resources and intellectual sources, which constitute a danger to humanity.

It referred to the decision of Salah al-Din Governorate to suspend official working hours next Wednesday, on this occasion.
