Uganda, Iran discuss expansion of trade ties

Tehran, IRNA – An Iranian deputy minister held talks with two ministers from Uganda on development of mutual economic and trade cooperation.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari, heading a delegation, visits Kampala to discuss finding ways to increase bilateral interactions.

Safari has met with Uganda’s Minister of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives Amelia Kyambadde and Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries Frank Tumwebaze, when they exchanged views on expansion of collaborations.

In the meetings, the Iranian and Ugandan sides also held talks on imminent holding of a joint commission, and expansion of trade exchanges, investment in coffee, herd breeding, oil, small industries and agricultural products as well as establishment of a permanent fairground for Iran-made products in the African country.

The deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy also held talks with Ugandan Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, when the two sides exchanged views.

According to the report, the deputy minister met with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday evening.

Both countries agreed on implementation of cooperation agreements, exchange of political and economic delegations to evaluate ways to strengthen mutual relationship.

Mohammad Aghamiri, Deputy Minister Agriculture Minister and Head of Iran’s Veterinary Organization, who accompanies Safari in the trip to Uganda, has held talks with his Ugandan counterparts on issues of mutual interests.

Uganda and Iran have agreed on putting an end on restrictions of the entry of Iranian medicine and medical equipment into Uganda.

Iran’s veterinary research delegation has been dispatched to Uganda to provide the African country with animal vaccines, bio-technology, nanotechnology, agricultural products, supply of chemical materials, as well as IT services.
