Ukrainian authorities: Russia unleashes missile salvos killing 31 people

Ukrainian authorities announced on Monday that Russia unleashed missile salvoes in the direction of Ukrainian cities killing at least 31 people and wounding scores of others.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, speaking at a news conference in the Polish capital Warsaw — excerpts of which were picked up here — called for firm Western retaliation for the wide-scale Russian offensive.

According to the Ukrainian authorities, 17 people died in the Russian missile attack in the capital Kyiv alone. However, in Moscow, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement that massive damage publicized by the Ukrainian authorities was done with a Ukrainian missile that missed the target.

Here in Berlin, the government denounced in the strongest terms “the ferocious attacks that targeted hospitals in the Ukrainian capital.” The foreign ministry said in a statement that the Government “calls on the Russian President Vladimir Putin to halt the hostile war” that has cost heavy casualties among the innocent civilian
s.

Russian forces have apparently changed tactics, targeting in particular sensitive and vital targets in Ukraine — including factories and energy installations.

Russian forces have been engaged in fighting against Ukrainian troops on various frontlines inside Ukraine since February 2022, when Moscow carried out a wide-scale military operation into the country. The Russian forces have taken control of some regions of the nation, namely areas in the eastern part with Russian-speaking communities.
