The first press conference for the boxing event, “IV Crown Showdown,” took place in London. The highly anticipated fight is set to kick off Riyadh Season 2024 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh on October 12. The audience will be treated to an electrifying sporting spectacle as two undefeated boxing champions, Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol of Russia, clash for the undisputed world champion title in the light heavyweight division.
Bivol, the WBA titleholder, said he is honored to compete once again at the Kingdom Arena, one of the world’s premier boxing venues. He emphasized that October 12 will be an unforgettable night for boxing enthusiasts, highlighting the Riyadh Season as a valuable opportunity for him to pursue his dream of attaining all championship belts.
Beterbiev, champion of the WBC, WBO, and IBF, noted that the Riyadh Season has played a pivotal role in advancing the sport of boxing over the past 12 months. He expressed delight at participating in the opening night of Riyadh Season and is determi
ned to secure a new belt to become the undisputed champion.
The event will also feature a lineup of fights with top-tier world champions competing across different weight divisions.
American boxer Shakur Stevenson will face Welsh boxer Joe Cordina in the super featherweight division. British boxer Chris Eubank Jr. will take on Polish boxer Kamil Szeremeta in the middleweight division. British boxers Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke will go head-to-head in the heavyweight division.
In the cruiserweight division, Jai Opetaia of Australia, who previously won by knockout in the Riyadh Season’s Ring of Fire fight last December, will face British boxer Jack Massey.
The 2020 Olympic silver medalist, Ben Whittaker, will face fellow British boxer Liam Cameron in the light heavyweight division.
Riyadh Season will also feature its first women’s fight, with Australian Skye Nicolson facing Britain’s Raven Chapman.
The audience will have the opportunity to witness a special bout between Saudi Arabia’s Mohammed Al-Aqel
and Mexico’s Jesus Ernesto Gonzales in the welterweight division, adding a unique national element to this global event.
