Tehran, IRNA – The United States urges Iran to return to its commitments under the 2015 nuclear deal while the Biden administration pursues paradoxical behavior when it comes to paving the way for the comeback to the agreement.
The United States Department of the Treasury lifts certain anti-Iran sanctions and in other occasions impose some new embargoes, so such deeds convey conflicting signals to the Iranian side that the American authorities cannot be a trustworthy party for negotiation and accord.
On the one hand the US insisted on resuming nuclear talks, which stopped on June 20, 2021, and on the other hand, they imposed new sanctions on the Islamic Republic’s entities and figures, implying that there is no hope for reviving the nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
On Friday, the US Department of Treasury targeted four individuals and two entities linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).
This move comes on the eve of kicking off the seventh round of nuclear talks in Vienna, Austria, so Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh described it as the White House’s paradoxical behavior and the continuation of the failed policy of maximum pressure by the Trump administration.
Earlier, European and American officials complained that Iran did not set a due time for returning to nuclear negotiations and now that Tehran has announced it is ready to resume nuclear talks by the end of November, the US pursues a way, which translates into untrustworthy.
This is while there have been some positive signals during recent months, including Europeans’ attempt to refuse voting for an anti-Iran resolution at the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on June 7.
Iranian authorities and experts accuse the Biden administrations of carrying out inconsistent acts and words while the Americans are expected to amend their withdrawal from the JCPOA in May 2018 and show goodwill for resumption of nuclear negotiations.
