Vienna talks cannot take so long: Speaker

Tehran, IRNA – Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said that the timeframe of the talks in Vienna to remove sanctions against in Iran should be limited and cannot take long.

The United States is intrinsically seeking for dominion and the Islamic Revolution in Iran basically objects this notion, Qalibaf said in an interview with al-Manar TV channel on Monday.

The nuclear issue is defined in this category, Qalibaf noted, adding that the US is seeking to undermine Iran under the pretext of nuclear issues.

The speaker gave a history of how the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), informally called the Iran nuclear deal, was brokered and how the former US President Donald Trump illegally withdrew from it and resume all sanctions against Iran, which led to Iran’s reduction of compliance with the deal in response.

Asked what Iran’s demands are in the talks in Vienna to revive the JCPOA, Qalibaf said that Iran’s commitments constitute one part of the deal and the other part is about the commitments of the other party, so Iran demands that if the US rejoins the deal it cannot exit it again.

He noted that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to resume full compliance to the JCPOA when the other parties verifiably remove sanctions and Iran can make sure that its economic benefits from the deal, including trade, banking, and economic transactions, are secured.

Qalibaf also touched on Iran’s regional policy, saying that Tehran has no limitations in contacts and negotiation with neighbors in the region, as it has been in talks with Saudi Arabia.

Saying that Israel is directing some moves in the region, like normalization of ties with the Zionist regime, he added that the people in the region wouldn’t accept normalization.
