Weqaa Prepares Veterinary Teams to Inspect Livestock Across Saudi Arabia for Hajj Season 1445H


Riyadh: The Makkah branch of the National Center for the Prevention and Control of Plant Pests and Animal Diseases (Weqaa) is preparing to implement an operational plan for the current Hajj season 1445H across all regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The plan will be in effect from the 15th of Dhul Qadah until the end of the Hajj season. The main goal is to carry out comprehensive livestock inspections to ensure their origin and safety.

The operational plan will involve 37 specialized veterinary teams working in various locations in Makkah, including the seven entrances to the Holy Capital, field teams for markets and slaughterhouses, emergency teams, and 37 teams for disease vector surveillance and control. Additionally, 10 field veterinary teams and 15 teams for disease vector surveillance and control will be assigned in Madinah.

The center is focused on implementing health procedures, controlling disease vectors, and reducing vector-borne diseases using modern technology, such as smart traps distribut
ed across multiple sites for vector surveillance and monitoring of imported livestock. This approach aims to minimize the risk of cross-border diseases and ensure the safety of animal products during the Hajj season.

Weqaa’s work encompasses various tracks, including the animal health risks track, the track for organizing the work of disease control teams (Hajj teams), the control of epidemic diseases track, the vector control track (emergency teams), the surveillance of epidemic diseases in public, benefit markets and slaughterhouses track, the biosecurity track, and the awareness track.
