15 Iraqi religious, academic institutes condemn US sanctions
Some 15 Iraqi religious and academic institutes participating in the Islamic Thought Conference in Baghdad strongly condemned US sanctions.
The conference was held in Al-Nahrain University to mark auspicious birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) and Unity Week and to commend great victories of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) in uprooting extremism in the country.
Supreme Leader's Representative Office in Iraq, World Forum for Proximity of the Islamic Schools of Thought, Iraq's Sunni Endowment Diwan, Iraqi Sunni Darul Ifta ((office of fatwas), Iraqi Sunni Muslim scholars of Islam and Almustafa International University were among the institutes attending the event.
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's representative in Iraq, Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini told the gathering that establishment of chambers of thought is essential for countries the arrogant world's plots.
Warning about threat of soft weapons such as Internet, he said, Today, arrogant powers are trying to infiltrate the hearts and souls of the youth and keep them away from the religious beliefs.
Closing statement of the conference stressed the need for seriously confronting the Takfiri and extremist thoughts in the Islamic societies.
Describing the issue of Palestine as the first issue of the Islamic world, the statement condemned massacre of innocent people in Palestine and Yemen.
Participating institutes in the conference also expressed their opposition to US anti-Iran sanctions and its policy of economic blockade of nations.
The statement condemned US unilateral sanctions against Iran, describing them as the same as terrorism and running counter to human rights and democracy which they claim they are advocating.
