250 Australian Firefighters in Struggle with Sydney Massive Bushfire
A bushfire burning out of control in the Sydney suburb of Londonderry was on Sunday downgraded to a watch and act, as more than 250 firefighters tried to contain it.
Crews said the bushfire, which produced heavy plumes of smoke that covered the area, escalated around lunchtime on Sunday.
Helicopters and a plane were battling the blaze from the air using fire retardant gel, but strong winds were making firefighting more difficult on the ground. It was the second fire emergency for residents in less than a fortnight.
