4.9 magnitude quake jolts southern Iran

Bandar Abbas, An earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale shook the city of Bastanak in Hormuzgan province Thursday afternoon.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 15:22 hours local time (10:58 GMT) at the depth of 5 km underground.

No report has so far been released on the likely casualty or damage to property.
