40 int’l referees officiating karate competitions in NW Iran

Orumiyeh, President of the World Karate Federation referee committee Javier Escalante announced that forty international referees from 10 countries officiate the 14th International Solidarity and Friendship Karate Male Championship in Orumiyeh (Urmia), north western Iran .

Speaking to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) on the sidelines of the event, Escalante said the competitions enjoy good quality.

The World Karate Federation has chosen the best referees for these competitions, he said.

Referring to the fact that nine referees are members of World Federation Commission, he said that Iranian referees have special position in world karate.

Iran has also received five Olympic quotas, Escalante added.

The 14th International Solidarity and Friendship Karate Male Championship is underway in Orumiyeh with the attendance of 300 athletes from Iran, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Brazil, the Netherlands, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Malaysia, India, Turkey and the US.

Presidents of federations of France, Turkey, Azerbaijan and heads of Belgium, Denmark and Norway referee commissions have also attended the event as especial guests.
