5 tons of illicit drugs seized in SE Iran
Zahedan, The Iranian police discovered and confiscated 5.007 tons of narcotic drugs in Sistan-Baluchestan Province, southeastern Iran, in three separate operations, said the commander of the provincial police on Saturday.
'In an operation in Sarbaz county, a number of armed drug traffickers were arrested,' said Brigadier-General Mohammad Qanbari.
Qanbari added that three drug-traffickers, 1.178 tons of opium, one Kalashnikov with three magazines, and a lot of ammo were seized in one operation.
In Konarak and Saravan, 1.378 tons of opium and 141 kg of hashish were discovered. Two drug dealers were arrested as well. Two Kalashnikovs with five magazines were also confiscated in the operation, Qanbari said.
Qanbari added that in the third operation, 2.310 tons of opium were found in a house in Heydar Abad.
