AFC Asian Cup 2019: UAE, Bahrain, Thailand reach round of 16

The 2019 Asian Cup hosts, The United Arab Emirates have advanced to the round of 16, despite a 1-1 draw against group A rivals Thailand.

The home side got on the score-sheet early when Ali Ahmed Mabkhout headed home the opener 7 minutes into the match.

But, Thailand piled up the pressure and equalized after Titipan Puangchan scored from close range before halftime. With the draw, the UAE are now through to the knock-out stage as the top team.

In the other group A match, Bahrain secured their spot in the round of 16 after narrowly beating India 1-0.

The match was about to finish score-less, which would have seen India through to the knockout stages, but a late penalty for Bahrain turned the tables around, and it is now the Bahrainis, who are through as the 2nd team.
