Al Azhar Imam urges addressing Palestine, Myanmar issues
Tehran, The Grand Imam of the al-Azhar in Cairo, in a congratulation message on the commencement of the year 2018, has called for formation of an active and effective international movement in support of the people in Palestine and Myanmar.
Ahmed el-Tayeb in his message called on the international community and its influential powers to take a significant step towards making the world a place free from hunger, poverty and discrimination, the Arabic-language daily Rai al-Youm reported.
The hunger in Africa, the oppression faced by the Muslims in Myanmar, the occupation of Palestine and the ongoing denial of the rights of the Palestinians and robbing them of their sanctities, constitute urgent issues which need to be addressed by the global community in the new year, Tayeb said.
The Grand Imam of al-Azhar also expressed hope for the year 2018 to be the year of blessings and peace for the humankind.
